WHAT IS SPORTS MASSAGE?

Hamstring MET

Sports massage is a deep form of soft tissue mobilisation that helps release the musculoskeletal pain, stress, tension, or injury caused by intense exercise or even sedentary work.

During treatment the therapist will utilise a variety of soft tissue techniques to alleviate pain, stresses, and strains. It improves the mobility of your body, relieves anxiety, and strengthens muscle movements. It also can help recovery from previous injuries that restrain elasticity in your muscles due to scar tissue.

Key facts:

  • It can be applied in a sporting and non-sporting context.

  • Involves a wide range of techniques that include trigger point massage, MET (muscle, energy, techniques), STR (Soft tissue release) and many more.

  • helps relieve muscular tension, break down adhesion's, mobilise soft tissues which leads to reduce pain and increased performance.

  • Is not a regular “candles and scent sticks” kind of treatment that you would expect at a hotel or spa.

Who should be treated?

Sports massage is an appropriate massage treatment for anyone who is in need of soft tissue mobilisation. The effects of sports massage are beneficial post-surgery, alongside physiotherapy, osteopathy, or as a health benefit within an office environment.

It is common however for professional athletes to use a sports massage as a regular part of their training program to help injury prevention and elevate performance.
